Proper way to break in a new vehicle: To extend the life of the car

New engine require a period of break-in to allow the mating surfaces of moving parts to mate evenly. Correct break-in will help your engine provide proper performance and longer life.

To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions and proper way to break in a new vehicle is recommended.

Proper way to break-in a new vehicle

For your car first 300 kilometer or 186 miles, avoid sudden stops. And for the first 1000 kilometer or 621 miles, you must observe and strictly follow the following rules;
  • Do not drive at extremely high speeds
  • Avoid sudden acceleration
  • Do not drive continuously in a low gears
  • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.


Also, before driving a new car on the road, comply first with the relevant vehicle registration laws and confirm the availability of the correct fuel.

Precautions to observe while on break in period
When starting the vehicle with automatic transmission, always keep your foot on the brake pedal while stopped with the engine is running. These prevent the new vehicle from creeping.

When driving your new car, do not drive if your not familiar with the location of the brake and accelerator pedals to avoid depressing the wrong pedal. Because, accidentally depressing the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal will result in sudden unintended acceleration that may lead to an accident that could result to serious injury or even death.

When backing up, you may twist your body around, leading to a difficulty in operating the pedals. Make sure to operate the car pedals properly. Also, make sure to keep a correct driving posture even when moving the vehicle  only slightly. This allows you to depress the brake and accelerator pedals properly.

Depress the brake pedals using right foot. Depressing the brake pedals using your right foot may delay response in an emergency condition, resulting in an accident that no one want.
