Ideal room humidity and temperature for newborn babies
Effect of Environment Temperature on Baby's
The smaller the baby, the more careful you need to be about changes in temperature. Premature babies and babies weighing less than five pounds have an immature temperature regulating system for the first few weeks after birth, therefore they, the babies at these situation must need to be kept warm. While, with term, healthy newborns, especially large ones weighing more than eight pounds, have baby fat and mature temperature regulating systems to adapt easily to an environmental temperature comfortable to an adult. A room temperature of about seventy degrees Fahrenheit is adequate for a term, healthy baby. What is more important than the actual temperature is its stability. Babies do not adjust well to marked temperature swings for their first few weeks.
Humidity in the room is important for two reasons;
1. It helps maintain the constancy of the temperature.
2. It keeps your little one narrow nasal passages from drying out.
A relative humidity of at least 50 percent is advisable. A dry climate may necessitate the use of a humidifier or vaporizer to maintain this humidity. Signs that the humidity in baby's sleeping room is too low are persistently clogged nasal passages, snuffly breathing, and dry skin.
Fact about temperature?
Temperature and heat are not the same thing. Temperature is a measurement of heat. Temperature tells whether something is hot or cold.
You measure temperature with a thermometer. A thermometer has a scale, such as Fahrenheit or Celsius. A thermometer hanging outdoors measures the temperature of the air. Air that is 32° Fahrenheit (0° Celsius) does not have much heat energy. At that temperature, water can freeze into ice. Air that is 100° Fahrenheit (38° Celsius) can make you feel very warm. Better put some ice into your lemonade and try to cool off!
